About Me

 Journalist ~ Student ~ Leader ~ Photographer

Hello, my name is Tia Humphries!   I am a senior journalism major in the Department of Media, Journalism, and Film at Howard University, with a minor in African American Studies. With my Bachelor of Arts degree, I plan to improve the diversity in media as a news anchor and, ultimately, an executive producer.

I recently served as a Digital Editorial Intern with NBC Sports Group Headquarters in Stamford, CT. In this role, I was responsible for writing SEO titles and descriptions for all NFL, Tour de France, and NASCAR content published on the NBC Sports Network website. My interest in sports journalism started as a sports reporter for Howard University’s student-operated newspaper, The Hilltop. I currently serve as the Sports Editor for the award-winning publication.

I also gained a unique perspective into the political scene of the nation’s capital, as a Press Intern on Capitol Hill for the Honorable Frederica S. Wilson of Florida District 24. During my internship, I was responsible for attending briefings, writing social media posts, and drafting press releases. I covered the 2018 Midterm elections in Washington’s Ward 3 for the Howard University News Service, which provides the content to more than 100 black-owned digital publications nationwide.

Throughout my matriculation, I have gained a variety of skill sets that include Final Cut Pro, Adobe InDesign, Premiere, Photoshop, search engine optimization, and social media strategizing. My work is featured in campus publications and notably in the International Photography Center in Manhattan, New York. I was also selected to be one of the five HBCU Fellows at the 2019 Online News Association convention. I gained a mentor and hands-on training in rising trends in digital journalism.
